How To Integrate Checkr with Scrut
Step 1: Fetch API Key from Checkr
Log in to your Checkr account and navigate to the Account page on the dashboard.
Select the Developer settings tab and click Create Key.
Enter the required details and generate the API key.
Copy the key as you’ll need to enter it in Scrut in the next step.

Step 2: Connect Your Checkr Account in Scrut
Log in to your Scrut account and click Integrations on the left navigation panel.
Click the Integrations Library tab at the top, and in the Categories section, click Background Check.
Locate the Checkr card, or use the search bar at the top of the page to find it, and click the Integrate button.

Enter the API Key you copied from Checkr and click Submit.

What Happens Next?
The integration will begin syncing background verification data for employees from your Checkr account.
The background check status will populate on employee detail pages in the Tasks → Ongoing → Background Checks section in the People → Employees module in Scrut.
Check Checkr integration Audit Logs to view data sync status and confirm successful integration.
FAQs & Troubleshooting
1: Invalid API Key Error
Verify the API key was copied correctly without extra spaces
Ensure the API key is active and not expired in Checkr
Confirm you have administrator permissions in Checkr to create and copy the API key
2: Data Not Syncing
Check your internet connection
Verify the Checkr integration status shows as "Connected"
Review Audit Logs for any sync errors or warnings
Re-authenticate the integration by updating the API key
3: Background Check Status Not Appearing in Scrut
Ensure employees exist in both Checkr and Scrut systems
Verify that employee emails match between platforms
Allow up to 24 hours for initial data sync to complete
Contact Scrut support if the data doesn't appear after 24 hours
Important
Scrut uses the employee's official email ID to retrieve background check results from Checkr. If the background verification was initiated with the employee’s personal email ID, then the results cannot be fetched from Checkr.
4: What happens if I regenerate my Checkr API key?
You'll need to update the integration in Scrut with the new API key. Navigate to Integrations → Checkr and enter the new key.
5: How often does Scrut sync data from Checkr?
Once every 24 hours.
