Integrate Mailgun

Learn how to connect your Mailgun account with Scrut.

What This Integration Does in Scrut

  • User Access Data: Fetches user details, roles, and permissions from Mailgun for Access Reviews.
  • Automated Tests: Runs automated checks that evaluate Mailgun against your applicable compliance frameworks.

Prerequisites

  • An active Mailgun account on the Foundation, Scale, Contract, or Enterprise plan
  • A Mailgun user with the Admin role who can create RBAC API keys

Permissions and Access Requirements

For Mailgun

  • An RBAC API key assigned the Admin role.
    • RBAC API keys are available only on the Foundation, Scale, Contract, and Enterprise plans. Accounts on other plans cannot connect this integration.

For Scrut

  • Admin access to Scrut (or Contributor with access to the Integration module)

Data Collected

  • User name
  • User email
  • User role

Sync Frequency

Data syncs automatically every 24 hours. You can also manually trigger a sync from the integration settings page.

Integration Setup

Step 1: Create an RBAC API Key in Mailgun

  1. Log in to your Mailgun account.
  2. In the left sidebar, navigate to Settings → API Keys.
  3. Under RBAC API Keys, click Create RBAC API Key.
  4. Enter a name for the key, such as Scrut Integration.
  5. Select the Admin role.
  6. Click Create.
  7. Copy the API key and store it securely.

Note: Mailgun shows the API key only once. Copy it before you close the dialog. If you lose the key, delete it and create a new one.

Step 2: Connect Mailgun in Scrut

  1. Log in to Scrut and navigate to Integrations.
  2. Click the Integrations Library tab.
  3. Search for Mailgun, or select the Miscellaneous category.
  4. On the Mailgun card, click Integrate.
  5. (Optional) Under Owner, click + to assign an owner for the integration.
  6. Under Credentials, paste the API key you copied in Step 1 into the Api Key field.
  7. Click Submit.

What Happens Next?

Initial Data Sync

The initial data sync starts automatically after you connect the integration. The time it takes depends on how many users are in your Mailgun account. You can monitor sync activity on the Audit Log tab of the Mailgun integration page.

Review Synced Data

  • Navigate to People → Access Reviews to include Mailgun user accounts in an access review.
  • Navigate to Tests to view the automated tests for Mailgun.
